Volume # 5 of The Bregdan Chronicles continues the sweeping saga that now encompasses the final year of the American Civil War.

Review Simply put These books are amazing. I cannot put them down. Especially The Last Long Night- I read the entire book in one sitting (and that is an accomplishment considering I'm a full time RN, homeschooling mom, and back in school full-time!) The characters are so well developed with such multifaceted traits, each one of them is endeared to my heart.

I also appreciate Ginny's writing style to be so detailed while at the same time allowing the story to flow so well. She is committed to the historicity of the Civil War and Ginny's efforts researching each key political and military figure bridges the gap of time. These stories are also clean and tasteful, so no worries with your teen readers! My four kiddos are still <10, but in no time, these books will certainly be part of our literature curriculum! Thank you, Ginny!!

Review I waited to give a review until I had read the first 5 books. I am struggling to find appropriate words to describe the awe I am in, and I find myself failing miserably. I absolutely could not put these books down. I would finish one, and immediately hop online to go get the next one....sometimes in the wee hours of the morning, when my tail should have been asleep. The writing style of this author brings you right into the story as if you are a part of it. She has amazing talent to capture the imagination, and bring you right into a virtual reality.

Thank you Ginny Dye...not only for an amazing journey....but for those God and light bulb moments throughout each book, that reached beyond the pages, and made their home inside the soul. What can I say overall? Well, let me put it like this these books are like... "Gone with the Wind" meets up with "Eat,Pray,Love"; then whispers some "Secret life of Bees", forges some "Steel Magnolia's", and at times, wraps itself with the "Color Purple." Sigh. Did I mention how much I loved these books?

Review I have read all the books and I am waiting for the next one - can't wait till it comes out. Every one of the books were great. There were times when I had very important things to do and couldn't put my kindle down. That is the only problem with these books because they are truly fantastic, but when you start one you don't want to stop!

What to say? I highly recommend this series to anyone that has an interest in historical fiction and an interest in the civil war. You get to look inside people's lives there hopes, joys, fears and how war affects daily lives. The author has done a lot of research to be as accurate as possible. You see things through the eyes of slaves, see their hopes and dreams, see the thoughts of slave owners, their fears and concerns for their futures and the people whose hearts are changed. The last year of the war that almost succeeded in tearing a nation apart. I do recommend starting from the begining of the series to get the full story. But I can say each book does have a ending yet also makes for wanti g to know what happens to all the characters, Cromwell family, the Bordens, Rose and Moses. Not only the fight foe freedom for the slaves but also the rights of women. How it takes support from others to accomplish these issues. Yes take some time to see things possibly in a different light. The Civil war was a very sad time in our history that we need to try to understand at the same time being hard to understand.

The Last Long Night #5 in the Bregdan Chronicles Historical Fiction Romance Series edition by Ginny Dye Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Another wonderful book. I could not put it down. I found the war so frustrating and it showed how people can be caught up in situations they have no control over. The book showed how choices will make such a difference. The civil war was such a disaster. It was unbelievable that the south fought to the bitter end. I just love this series it is so well researched. You have done a remarkable job bringing history to life. I eagerly await book 6
Just finished #5 in the Bregdan Chronicles Series. Again, Ginny Dye has given us a front row seat of the gruesome and horrendous happenings during this war. Still can't get my head around the sufferings the troops were forced to live through. To have no shoes or boots to wear, to be so cold and not be able to get relief since they didn't have enough or proper clothing for the weather they were forced to live in. To be starving because their provisions were intercepted and there was little or nothing to eat. To see the horrendous sights the medical staff had to see as the troops came through their hospitals and were missing limbs or had to have them amputated to save their lives.

Despite all this graphic pain and suffering, we have a group of characters that are true, down-to-earth characters with compassion and very big hearts that keep moving forward to do all they can as well as having loving relationships with each other and supporting each other. It is beautiful and it is remarkable. I enjoy their stories behind the scenes.

To anyone that Isn't aware of this series, do yourself a favor and start with Book #1 and see what a great story it is and the great characters that come alive on every page. I truly believe that you will get hooked. The added benefit is that there are 10 books in this series so far with more to come.
I have read all of the books and I am waiting for the next one in May can't wait till it comes out. Every one of the books were great there were times when I had very important things to do and couldn't put my kindle down. That is the only problem with these books because they are truly fantastic but when you start one you don't want to stop till you have finished and then you can't wait till the next one comes out. I can truly say I have never read any book that I have enjoyed as much as this series, and I read at least a book a week.
Ginny Dye has given us a remarkable behind-the-scenes look at the American Civil Was through the eyes of a wide range of characters both young and old, black and white, honorable and dishonorable. "The Last, Long Night" is book #5 in a series of 10 books called the "Bregdan Chronicles". Each book tells the story of one year in the Civil War, including the months leading up to the start of the Confederacy, as well as major events during and after the war. While the narrative is written in simple language suitable for high school and young adults, the content is often disturbingly graphic, especially in describing characters engaged in battles and during hospital scenes with wounded and dying soldiers. Also disturbing are terrifying scenes where racist language and cruelty are at their worse. And yet, the overall and unifying message in these books is love - love for self and how to discover it, love for others and how to express it in times of calm and in crisis, and how love can heal both body and spirit despite horrendous, unbearable, and seemingly hopeless circumstances. Another theme is that war changes people, and love can sometimes help change them for the better. I'm thankful to Ms. Dye for her in-depth research and careful attention to details throughout the "Bregdan Chronicle" books. There is a lot to learn and understand from this historical series, and I would encourage anyone seeking to better understand the American people, their culture, and their history, to read this and all the books in the "Bregdan" series. (Book #1 is called "Storm Clouds Rolling In" by Ginny Dye)
Ginny, if you could only witness what I get to experience reading your books! I am in a very unique "book club" with a friend who lives about 2,000 miles away. You see, we connect via our cell phones and read aloud to each other. He reads the male characters and I, the females. We try to imagine what their voices would sound like and read accordingly. At times we are carried away on tangents as we share personal experiences that relate to what we're reading. We have laughed, cried, reflected, and grown together through our journey with your Bregdan Chronicles. We are especially grateful for the education on the history of the Civil War and are impressed with your research efforts! Thank you for all the time and energy you have devoted to writing these amazing books! We will forever cherish the experience we are having with these books because of you! I hope someone is considering making a series of movies from these books! WOW! That would be incredible!
This book we just finished, #5, was especially gripping and at times intense. We both look forward to #6! Thank you again! WE ARE IN!
